What is Partnership for a Clean River?

Clean River LogoPartnership for a Clean River is a partnership of businesses that recognize the true cost of doing business, the importance of the St. Johns River to our community, and the value of the work that St. Johns Riverkeeper is doing to protect and restore the river. Partner businesses donate a percentage of sales to St. Johns Riverkeeper. One of the primary goals of this partnership is to create a recurring source of funding that will help sustain the ongoing advocacy efforts of Riverkeeper. Through our partnership with Riverkeeper, we encourage responsible business practices and promote an environmental business ethic, help raise awareness and educate the public about the river, and provide funding for river advocacy. Our partnership is designed to help our members become sustainable businesses and help Riverkeeper to fulfill its mission.

How do I become a member?

We ask our partners to sign a licensing agreement and an annual pledge form that designates a percentage of sales or revenue to be donated to St. Johns Riverkeeper and validates your commitment to our charter. Your pledge must equal or exceed a total of $1000 in annual contributions. However, we hope that you will consider a pledge that is representative of your company's commitment to the river and Riverkeeper and commensurate with your financial performance and ability to contribute.

A committee consisting of a representative from each business partner will then review your company's application and prior environmental performance to ensure that the criteria for participation has been satisfied.

Donations are tax-deductible and may be given in installments throughout the year or you can write one check within 30 days of the end of your company's fiscal year. Annual donations that are already committed by your organization to Riverkeeper can be counted toward your Partnership pledge.

How will becoming a Partnership for a Clean River member help my business?

Membership in Partnership for a Clean River demonstrates your commitment to the environment and the St. Johns River in a meaningful and powerful way, helping to differentiate your business and to strengthen your brand. The Partnership for a Clean River logo and marketing campaign allows your business to effectively communicate that commitment to your customers, clients and the community.

Being a Partner can help to differentiate and add an environmental dimension to your brand, attract new customers or clients, and develop a stronger sense of loyalty among your customers, clients, employees, and stakeholders.

Your employees, community and stakeholders will also take pride and satisfaction in knowing they support an environmentally responsible company.

Why should we join?

When you join Partnership for a Clean River, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that your business is contributing to a good cause. Membership in PCR is also an acknowledgement that your business and others in the private sector play an important role in the restoration and protection of the St. Johns River. We cannot rely exclusively on our government to protect our natural resources. The advocacy work of St. Johns Riverkeeper is essential if we are to achieve the goal of a clean and healthy St. Johns River, and your support and involvement are critical to our success. You will serve as a catalyst for change, helping to facilitate the restoration of the river and inspiring other businesses and individuals to make a commitment to our river and our community, as well.

Charter

We believe that the St. Johns River is one of our community's greatest natural resources, contributes significantly to our quality of life, and substantially benefits our businesses and local economy.

We recognize that we, as businesses and individuals, can have adverse impacts on our waterways and environment, and thus, we have an obligation to take actions to mitigate those impacts. In addition, we understand that we have a personal responsibility to operate our businesses and to make personal choices that will not knowingly harm the St. Johns River or its tributaries.

Therefore, we have decided not to rely exclusively on our government or others to address the problems that are impacting our waterways. We are committing our businesses to donate a percentage of sales to help protect and restore the St. Johns River by supporting the efforts of St. Johns Riverkeeper.
