RevengeOfTheRiver

Imagine a region on the verge of squandering its treasure. Picture a state on the brink of decimating its splendor. Then look no further than your own front yard. The city is Jacksonville, the state is Florida, and the factors contributing to our dilemma grow daily: A sick river, polluted streams, disappearing wetlands, shrinking water supplies and never-ending development - all in the midst of explosive population growth. Experts say the St. Johns is already warning us. Are we responding to the alarm or will our river ultimately have its revenge on us?

Revenge of the River is an educational documentary film project produced by PRC Digital Media that raises awareness about the problems facing the St. Johns River and what needs to be done to restore its health. Revenge of the River begins by updating viewers about what has taken place since the massive “Green Monster” algae bloom of 2005.

As a result of the Green Monster, awareness and concern within the community are at an all-time high and government officials have drafted a restoration plan for the St. Johns, the St. Johns River Accord. But, have we done enough? Will these efforts result in a clean and healthy St. Johns River?

Revenge of the River provides some of those answers by analyzing the Accord and investigating some of the critical issues that are not being adequately addressed or even mentioned by elected officials and regulatory agencies, such as the rapid loss of wetlands, inadequate enforcement of our environmental laws, the depletion of our groundwater supply, and unbridled growth.

If we are not doing enough now to protect our river and natural resources, how can we accommodate a population in Florida that is expected to double by 2060? We are at a crossroads in the future of the river and a paradigm shift is in order. Business as usual is no longer an option. We can choose a more sustainable path or we can leave these decisions up to our children and grandchildren? We still have time to reconcile with our river before it seeks its revenge.
